How to Install a Windshield Banner on Your Car

Banner Installation Guide

Step-by-step instructions for 40" dry installs and 60" wet windshield banner installs.

Before You Start: Take your time with cleaning, measuring, and alignment. Most installation issues happen during prep and positioning, not after the banner is already applied. If you are unsure, we recommend professional installation.

Tip: Install with a friend if possible. One person can hold and align while the other applies.

🪛Installation — Dry Method

  1. Position first: Hold the banner in place. Step back and confirm it is centered and level before applying.
  2. Create a center hinge: Use masking tape vertically through the center of the banner. This keeps the banner aligned while you apply each side.
  3. Peel backing to the hinge: Lift one side and peel the liner back toward the center hinge. Avoid touching the adhesive.
  4. Apply from the center outward: Starting at the center, use firm overlapping squeegee strokes at a 45° angle, working outward to the edge.
  5. Repeat the other side: Remove the center hinge, peel the remaining liner, and continue squeegeeing from the already-applied area outward.
  6. Remove transfer tape carefully: Lay the tape flat against the windshield and pull slowly at a 45° angle. If vinyl lifts, stop and press it back down before continuing.

60" Banner Install

Estimated install time: 30-60 minutes

Important: For 60" banners with masking tape, leave the clear masking tape on for a few hours. If the banner starts to lift when peeling, stop and let it dry longer. You can lightly wet the tape to help it release.
Wet Method Mix: Use clean water with a very small amount of baby shampoo. Too much soap can reduce adhesion.

🪛Installation — Wet Method

  1. Clean your windshield: Clean the glass with isopropyl alcohol and let it dry completely before applying.
  2. Peel the backing: Lay the banner face down. Carefully peel off the white backing paper without pulling or stretching the vinyl.
  3. Spray the adhesive side: Lightly spray the sticky side of the banner with your water and baby shampoo mix.
  4. Spray the windshield: Spray the windshield, roof edge, and pillars generously so you can position the banner evenly.
  5. Place and align: Center carefully and make sure the corners reach and cover the windshield edges before locking it in place.
  6. Squeegee out water: Push water out from the center toward the edges using firm, overlapping strokes.
  7. Trim the edges: Carefully trim any excess vinyl around the windshield edges using a sharp blade.
  8. Let it cure: Allow the banner to dry and cure for at least 48 hours before washing, driving, or exposing it to heavy rain.
48-Hour Cure Warning: Do not drive, wash, or expose the banner to heavy rain for at least 48 hours. Driving too soon can cause airflow to lift the edges before the adhesive has fully cured.

Common Installation Mistakes

  • Installing on a dirty, dusty, waxed, or wet windshield.
  • Installing in direct hot sunlight, rain, wind, or cold weather.
  • Skipping the measuring and alignment step.
  • Removing transfer tape too quickly.
  • Stretching the vinyl while applying.
  • Using too much soap during wet installation.
  • Driving before the banner has cured for 48 hours.

Aftercare

  • Wait at least 48 hours before washing.
  • Hand wash only when possible.
  • Avoid pressure washers near edges and seams.
  • Inspect edges periodically and press down if needed.

⚠️Important

  • Improper installation damage is not covered.
  • Vinyl can lift if driven before curing.
  • If unsure, use a professional installer.

Troubleshooting

Trapped bubbles

Small bubbles often disappear within a few days. For stubborn bubbles, carefully prick the edge with a fine pin and push the air out with a squeegee.

Wrinkles or creases

Lift gently if possible, add light heat, and re-squeegee from the center outward. Do not overheat or overstretch the material.

Edge lift

Warm the edge lightly and press it down firmly with a felt squeegee. If dust or water is trapped under the edge, clean and dry the area first for best adhesion.

Transfer tape is lifting the vinyl

Stop peeling immediately. Press the vinyl back down, squeegee again, and let it dry longer. Peel the transfer tape slowly and flat against the glass at a 45° angle.
